Problem in updating Steam (VIDEO GAMES) on Mac !!?

I downloaded Steam 2 days ago and when i open it , it asks for an update . It starts updating normally , but suddenly it stops and tell me this : "Steam need to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection " , and my internet connection is fine . I have tried updating it again & again but it shows the same msg . PLEAS HELP !
